February 2010: Swiss-Japanese Roundtable on Collaboration in Business & Science On February 2, the second event of the new series of meetings to be held regularly in collaboration with the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan SCCIJ, was held at Hosei in Ichigaya.
December 2009: Presentation on Carbon Footprint for ODA at COP15 Conference in Copenhagen On December 6, HERZ Director Claude Siegenthaler participated as an official member of the Japanese delegation at the COP15 conference in Copenhagen. He presented some of the results of a recent research project comissioned by the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA on how to develop Carbon Footprint Methods for the evaluation of ODA projects based on Life Cycle Assessment. The presentation was attended by some 180 delegates.
October 2009: Swiss Symposium - Workshops on Science and Technology and Sustainability In early 2009, Switzerland and Japan have signed a Bilateral Free Trade Agreement. In comemoration of this historical event, the Swiss Embassy hosted symposium and several workshops on October 6. HERZ together with the Science and Technology Office of the Swiss Embassy co-organised workshops on R&D and Sustainability. The well attended workshops featured first hand reports from Swiss companies and research bodies as well as a panel. HERZ Director Claude Siegenthaler chaired a panel with the President of the ETH Zurich, Ralph Eichler, the Chariman of Mitsubishi Research and President emeritus of the Univesity of Tokyo, Hiroshi Komiyama as well as the Senior Partner of the 200 years old Private Bank Pictet & Cie, Ivan Pictet. Among the approx. 150 guests in the audience was also Mrs. Doris Leuthard, Vice-President of the Swiss Confederation.

Swiss-Japanese Roundtable on Collaboration in Business & Science in Tokyo The Swiss-Japanese Roundtable is a new, informal platform featuring a series of meetings held regularly in collaboration with the Swiss Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Japan (SCCIJ), the University of Zurich and Hosei University. Managers, engineers and academic scholars interested in the exchange of experiences for working effectively in trans-cultural settings discuss first hand case studies and explore cultural competences together with experts from Japanese Studies.
YES Japan - International Student Programme on Sustainability 2010 The YES Programme is a two weeks course that brings together students from up to 30 different nationalities and a broad variety of majors to jointly explore the concept of Sustainability. It involves leading scholars from MIT Boston, ETH Zurich, TU Vienna, The University of Tokyo and provides a most transdisciplinary learning environment.
